Empty Nesting

How do you switch from parenting them full time to letting go?  How do you let go? Our daughter graduated college last summer and moved to Chicago to start her career and life as an adult.  When she was in college, we always texted and checked in, sent good morning texts, how was your day texts. good night texts etc.  Now that she is living on her own, I am not sure how often is overbearing and how often is not enough!  I'm so confused! I mean she does a great job of keeping in touch with us and texting us about her day and such.  But as a mom, how often is too often for me to check in? I don't want her to feel like I am being a helicopter mom, but I also don't want her to think I am not involved, not interested or being overbearing!   She doesn't seem to be struggling with it, but I am! Aging...WTH

The other morning, I get up, get out of bed, wander off to the kitchen to make my morning iced coffee.  I am standing at the counter, stretch and pull not one, but two muscles in my shoulder.   We are not talking about intense stretching, like preparing for exercise, we are talking about a yawn and stretch moment?!?!  How in the holy heck do you pull a muscle yawning????  I mean I knew this aging thing caused you to make noises when getting up after you sat still for too long, or made your body hurt after long car rides etc.  I have accepted those things.  But a YAWNING injury?  Seems like BS to me! This is all recent.  I mean is there a certain age when these things happen?  When I turned 51 did someone flip a switch that made my muscles more sensitive?  The sad thing is this muscle did not stop hurting that day, or the next day.  it lasted for several days.  For multiple days I walked around smelling like Icy Hot, ...

Nice to meet you!

A little about me! I am a 51 year old wife/mom/pet mom. I have been married to my amazing husband (Charles) for 24 years and counting.  We have a 23 year old daughter (Natalie) and a 19 year old son (Seth).    We have two large dogs (Abbey and Gibbs) that you will read almost as much about as our two children!  I was a stay at home mom for 15 years, after the kids didn't need me to bake cookies, be a room mom, or a team mom anymore.  I decided I needed to get back out into the world.  I started volunteering at a local, community non-profit.  I later started planning community events for the non profit, writing grants, and marketing.  I love what I do, but boy is it exhausting.   Staying busy is how I cope with the new empty nest thing!  Why did no one warn us about these kids growing up, moving out and having a life of their own?  I mean, I watched them grow up, so I knew it was happening, but I feel like I blinked and everythi...

Welcome to my Hot Flashes and Mid Life Musings!

Welcome to my blog! I am at a point in my life where I think I have insight to offer the world.  Is it scientific based? Nope, Is it heavily researched?  Also, no!  It is just my life experiences, and rants!
